DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication system used to check that an email message has been sent by an authorized mail server or person. An e-signature is attached to the header of the email message using a private key. When the email is received, a public key that is available in the global Domain Name System is used to validate who actually sent it and whether the content has been edited in some way. The chief purpose of DKIM is to stop the widespread scam and spam email messages, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for example, but the signature does not match, you will either not receive the email at all, or you’ll get it with a warning notification that most probably it’s not a legitimate one. It depends on email service providers what exactly will happen with an email message which fails the signature examination. DKIM will also give you an added layer of protection when you communicate with your business partners, for example, since they can see that all the e-mails that you exchange are authentic and haven’t been meddled with on their way.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Hosting

If you host a domain in a hosting account from us, all the required records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail feature will be set up by default. This will happen once you add the domain in , provided that it also uses our NS resource records. A private key will be generated on our email servers, whereas a public key will be sent to the DNS database automatically using the TXT record. Thus, you will not have to do anything manually and you will be able to enjoy all the benefits of this authentication system – your emails will be sent to any audience without being disallowed and nobody will be able to send out email messages forging your addresses. The latter is quite important if the essence of your web presence suggests sending periodic offers or newsletters via email to potential and existing clients.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

All obligatory DomainKeys Identified Mail records will be set up automatically by our cloud platform when you add a domain name as hosted in your semi-dedicated server account, so in case you decide to purchase a semi-dedicated hosting package, you will not need to set up anything to be able to take advantage of the email validation system. The domain name should use our name servers in order for its DNS resource records to be managed by our company and as long as this prerequisite is met, a private key will be generated on our email servers and a public key will be added to the DNS system by a special TXT record. All addresses that you set up using the domain name will be protected by DomainKeys Identified Mail, which will make it impossible for 3rd parties to fake any email address. Both you and your associates or clients can benefit from this service, since it will ensure a much higher level of protection for your email correspondence.
