An access log is a text file containing a complete list of all the files accessed by your website visitors. All of the files which were requested in one way or another shall be included, so when you have a PHP script program and a visitor opens only the home page, for instance, you might find numerous files inside the log. It is because there are components on the home page which are embedded - parts of other pages, pics, etcetera. All these files shall be listed inside the access log, so you can get a detailed picture of the way your site performs. The data is in plain text format, so the logs are sometimes referred to as "raw data" as well. An access log contains the name of each and every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, plus the user’s IP address, web browser and Operating System. More information, including the referrer site, is typically supplied as well. A log file could be processed by various desktop apps for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats supplied by your web server.

Once you sign in to your hosting account and go to this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to each domain/subdomain. When the option is active, you shall see a download link together with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your PC and look at it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect instantaneously, so if you don't require one, you'll be able to stop it with a click from the exact same section of the CP. You'll still be able to access the already created content by simply clicking on the Download link.

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it will not take more than several clicks to permit the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature can be permitted from the Hepsia web hosting Control Panel and this may be done independently for every single domain or subdomain which you have in your account. When you log in and check out the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each of them. A single click shall enable the log generation and another one shall deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great simplicity. A Download link within the same section will allow you to save the generated content as a text file, which you can then use on your PC. Even if the logs are disabled, you shall still be able to download the data that's been previously generated.
